A Brief Overview of Cape Town's Weather

Generally , the warm weather months in Cape Town are between November and April. Late February through March also offer sublime conditions, and the city is often less busy and thus slightly more relaxing during this time. Winter in Cape Town occurs from mid-May to mid-September, and these months are generally cool and wet, but sublime windless days pop up in the middle when you least expect them - many Cape Town winter days are even on a par with some European summers. These winter days are best spent touring wine estates, visiting museums, and, of course, shopping at the V&A Waterfont or Canal Walk.

The wind in Cape Town is notorious, and blows strongly from various directions throughout the year, sometimes making beach trips a little uncomfortable and occasionally causing the Table Mountain Cable Car to close. 

Be Prepared!

Cape Town's weather can change dramatically, and so layering clothing works well. Keeping a sweater or a jumper in the car is a great idea – even in summer. Always keep sunscreen handy in the warmer months - the sun in South Africa is particularly hot.  Umbrellas only really work in windless wet conditions, and there are not many of those in Cape Town in winter, so parkas, raincoats and hoodies work best.
