After the drumming session, an ancient African hand washing custom using rose water takes place, before patrons are were escorted to their table in the adjoining dining room.
Various dishes of Cape Malay Cuisine and African cooking are on offer which are served off grass baskets from a set menu, in seemingly never-ending succession, by beautifully dressed waiters adorned in colourful African cloth. The beautifully designed menu, which is yours to keep at the end of the meal, also features Indian tomato soup flavoured with chillies, ginger and garlic and served with adorable Xhosa pot breads, and an expert selection of local wines.
An evening at GOLD Restaurant attempts to simulate a night of feasting under the African skies, and even ends with the arrival of the Mali puppet King and Queen.
